Science and
art are an essential combination in
winemaking, and we have the best of both
worlds in owners Chris and Denise
Nelson. Chris is a scientist with a
flair for art and a taste for wine; he
is our master winemaker. Denise is an
architect with an eye for design and
talent for creating fine cuisines. In
addition to being our Executive Chef,
she has a talent for creating and
designing cakes and floral arrangements
to give each event an elegant touch.
Chris began
tasting wines over 2 decades ago while
attending college and medical school in
Texas. He
and his brother would take a break from
studying every evening and open a bottle
of wine to both enjoy and
discuss. Soon this became much more than
a hobby. Chris took a trip to Napa
Valley his senior year in medical school
and things haven’t been the same since.
Chris and Denise produced their first
wine for their wedding in 1992. A few
years later they moved to Nicholasville,
KY, where
they’ve been ever since.
The Nelsons
produced their first wines at Chrisman
Mill just 7 miles away from this
country’s first commercial vineyard.
Jean Jacques Dufour, an immigrant from
Switzerland, established
First Vineyard in
1799 on Sugar Creek Pike here in
Jessamine County, Kentucky. 200 years
later, the Nelsons continue Kentucky’s
tradition of producing delicious and
unique wines.
“The
Dream of a Winemaker”
Chrisman Mill Vineyards has made the
commitment to produce grape wines that
are sourced and bottled here in
Kentucky. Along with our estate
harvests, we are proud to support over
14 local
Kentucky growers. Our loyal patrons
appreciate our selection of Kentucky
wines and they have come to expect
nothing less than exquisite taste when
they open a bottle of Chrisman Mill
Wine. |
